Divine G’s Journey
As depicted in the movie Sing Sing, Divine G served 25 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit, despite finding overwhelming evidence of his actual innocence. While in prison, he co-founded Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), a program that helps incarcerated people grow through creative expression. A multiple PEN American Center award winner, Divine G has eight published novels (seven of which have been adapted into screenplays) and five audio books. Since his release in 2012, Divine G founded Divine G Entertainment and continues to fight for his exoneration and has a Conviction Review Complaint pending in the Kings County DA’s Conviction Review Unit (CRU). This complaint has been lingering in that unit for over seven years.

Divine G, the Subject of the Movie Sing Sing
On this movie Sing Sing, Divine G acquired four movie credits consisting of: 1) a story credit; Sing Sing is based primarily on Divine G’s journey while involved in the Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program at Sing Sing; Colman Domingo with an Oscar nominated lead actor performance portrays him in this movie as the main character of the story; 2) a writer’s credit; Divine G along with Gregg Kwedar, Clint Bentley and Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin wrote this Oscar nominated screenplay; 3) an Executive Producer credit; Divine G took part in virtually all developmental aspects of the movie, ranging from selecting the supporting actors to ensuring the sets and locations were accurate and authentic; and 4) an actor’s credit; Divine G makes a cameo appearance in this movie as the Book Fan, who asks himself (Divine G played by Colmin Domingo) to give him (the real Divine G) an autograph of one of his three published novels (Money Grip).
As demonstrated in this movie, Divine G served decades in prison for a crime he did not commit despite finding overwhelming evidence of his actual innocence. For a review of some of the evidence of his innocence, please see his PEN award winning memoir The Whitfield Files. It must further be noted that Divine G is still fighting to undo this gross miscarriage of justice and currently has a Conviction Review Unit (CRU) Complaint pending in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. This complaint has been pending in that Office for over seven years.
